On the 27th of June 2009, my squad and sec. 2 seniors went to Ngee Ann Civic Plaza for the major event, the customized Shine Youth Mascot Parade. On reaching and apprehending to the atmosphere of the event, the first thing we did was to register our names and to get a pass/ tag.
After registration, we went to the command post to place our belongings and we started changing into our t-shirts that were provided to us. We began feeling excited at this point of time! Some of my squad mates were dressed up in superhero and other costumes, walking and showing off to the public crowd. As for the rest us, including me, we took the job of being reliable road marshals.
Around 3pm, our parade began as we walk down the pavement to Ngee Ann Civic Plaza where the entire main event took place. During the parade, the marshals were been ask to condense into a massive human barricade. This is to prevent pedestrians from touching or harming the paraders (people with costumes) because some of their costumes were too heavy. Only people with passes were allowed to sieve through the human barricade and take pictures.
As the event sets off, the public were then allowed to touch and take up-close shots with them. Some of our seniors dressed into cute mascots such as the pink elephant/ charity elephant and go around shaking hands and getting their pictures taken with their own humorous characters. There were many other costumes worn by professionals; such as Marvel’s Ironman, the evilish Joker, and the only civil hero who can subdue joker, Batman, and Maskrider 551. Others involve an all-star popular and yet, the only cute Dinosaur, Barney, and some anime characters.
There were also some parties that took place. Unfortunately, I did not attend because I was too exhausted. We sat down, waiting to be dismissed and meanwhile, we were joking with one another. Soon, we were dismissed and our staffs brought us to the MRT station home.
