MSSNPCC .177 Air Rifle Competition

MSSNPCC .177 Air Rifle Competition

On the 28th of March, there was a .177 air rifle competition organized by NUS NPCC Unit for Montfort NPCC Unit. We had a double team representing the unit. Team 1 mainly consists of cadet leaders, naming SSGT Joel Tan, Shannon Chan and reserve, Lee Sheng Jie led by captain SSGT Winston Ong. The second team consists of sec 3 cadet leaders trainees, Alden Loh and Lim Yee Tat led by captain CPL Khoo Chit Hui. We went there with loads of excitement, as this will be our first time entering a new arena.

The venue of the competition was held at Home Team NS. After hitting our destination, we were given 50 .177 pellets, 10 competition cards and 1 sighting card. At close range, we managed to get an overview of it as the other competitors were not done with their shooting yet. To kill some time, there was a lucky draw. From our unit, SSGT Shannon Chan won a couple of tickets to Bedok Reservoir Park’s “Tree Top Course”. Soon, we were been hailed to the competition bench. It was an adrenaline-rushing experience.

We prepared our sighting cards and co-ordinated with our new rifles to do a blank firing first, followed by a test firing. When I was satisfied with my accuracy, I started to shoot the 1st competition card precisely. It was not very well done. I strived better for a “marksman portrait” on the following cards. At the blink of an eye, we had done our shooting at a lightning fast rate. I handed my competition cards and went to have a break to await for my results.

After Detail 4, our score was revealed and my team, no.2 did not do very well. Better than us, Team 1 got 4th in place. Although I was felt disappointed, but I gained fruitful learning experiences on air rifles and hope to improve further for the upcoming competitions with a newly-found competitive attitude.
